Police in Adjumani District have launched investigations after a 34-year-old man collapsed and died during a physical fitness test as part of a police recruitment exercise at Paridi Stadium.
Authorities are working to establish the circumstances that led to the fatal incident.
The deceased, identified as Solomon Obudra, a resident of Angwarapi East Village, Miniki Parish, Dzaipi Sub-county, collapsed shortly after completing a 2-kilometer run required for applicants seeking to join as Special Polling Constables.
The incident occurred on November 6, 2025, at around 11:00 AM, when over 1,000 applicants were undergoing fitness assessments at Paridi Stadium in Adjumani Town Council.
Obudra was rushed to Adjumani General Hospital for treatment, with his brother, Vincent Alaru Moini—also participating in the recruitment—joining to assist.
Despite medical efforts, he passed away at around 8:20 PM. The death was subsequently reported to police, prompting a formal investigation.
Superintendent of Police Collins Asea, Police PRO for the North West Nile Region, confirmed the incident and described it as unfortunate.
“We have opened a death investigation file to establish what exactly led to the applicant’s death. Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased collapsed after completing a physical fitness run during the recruitment exercise. His body is currently at Adjumani General Hospital mortuary pending postmortem,” SP Asea said.
The postmortem examination (PF 48A and PF 48B) is expected to determine the actual cause of death as investigations continue. SP Asea extended condolences to the deceased’s family and advised applicants in ongoing and future recruitment exercises to prepare physically and undergo medical checkups before participating in such activities.
The body of Solomon Obudra remains at Adjumani General Hospital Mortuary pending further examination as police carry on with inquiries into the tragic event.
